About Red Sparks

Daejeon CheongKwanJang Red Sparks (Korean: 대전 정관장 레드스파크스), also known as JungKwanJang Red Sparks, is a professional women’s volleyball club from South Korea. The club was founded in 1988 and turned professional in 2005. They are based in Daejeon xx1toto and are members of the South Korea Volleyball Federation (KOVO). The team’s home stadium is Chungmu Gymnasium in Daejeon.

Our History

The Daejeon JungKwanJang Red Sparks is a South Korean professional volleyball club founded in 1988. Based in Daejeon, the club is a regular participant in the Korean Volleyball League (V-League) and has won three league titles (2005, 2010, and 2012) and two KOVO Cup titles. Here are key points from the Red Sparks’ history:

Establishment & Initial Name: Formed in 1988, the club was originally known as the Korea Monopoly Volleyball Team.

Professional Era (V-League): The team was one of the original participants in the Korean Volleyball League, which began in the 2005 season.

Championships: The Red Sparks have won three league titles, most recently in the 2011/2012 season.

Name Change: Formerly known as Daejeon Korea Ginseng Corporation (KGC), the club frequently changed names and identities before becoming known as the Red Sparks, based at Chungmu Gymnasium in Daejeon.

Revival & the Megawati Era: After a brief spell of league championships, the team returned to the spotlight after signing Indonesian volleyball player Megawati Hangestri Pertiwi in the 2023/2024 season, who successfully led the team back to the playoffs after a seven-year absence.
